Mais uma vez Josie Jaffrey traz-nos os seus singulares vampiros que nos fazem desejar ser Silver.
E antes de começar a resenha queria deixar isto bem presente: adoro os vampiros da Josie! Adoro que a autora não faça com que tudo gire à volta do sangue, o beber sangue, o matar por sangue e sobre constantes descrições sobre o quão bom é o sangue humano.
Sim, eles são vampiros, mas sabem controlar-se (os que são civilizados *cof cof* not Felton) e vivem praticamente como humanos, apenas com as diferenças anatómicas que advém da sua condição de vampiros e precisam de sangue para sobreviver.
Já agora, se querem perceber que tipo de vampiros falo, vejam a minha review do livro The Gilded King.

Jack Valentine é um membro dos Seekers, um género de Polícia Judiciária dos Vampiros, e tem que investigar um homicídio, que ao que tudo indica, foi causada por um Silver. E Jack está "mortinha" por provar que foi Killian Drake (o seu arquinimigo já conhecido da prequela Killian's Dead) o responsável pelo assassinato de David Grant. Mas tudo aponta para a inocência de Killian (pelo menos neste caso) e Jack vê-se obrigada a ter que cooperar com o Barão de Oxford para poder conseguir seguir as pistas a que o seu caso a leva.

Se eu tinha ficado meia relutante com a Jack Valentine em Killian's Dead, este livro tirou todas as minhas dúvidas de que esta personagem tem um potencial gigante!
Por causa da prequela entrei meia incerta em May Day e confesso que foi a presença de Cam (a personagem já é conhecida, pelo menos, da série Sovereign que li e já resenhei: The Gilded King, The Silver Queen e The Blood Prince) que me fez entusiasmar com este livro nas primeiras 100 páginas, mas depois daquele período típico de enquadramento na história a Jack começa finalmente a tomar decisões ousadas e isso fá-la crescer horrores enquanto personagem. E isso transforma completamente a história!
Passaram-se cerca de 20 anos desde a prequela até ao momento inicial do livro, mas é no intervalo desde o início do livro até ao seu fim, que nem dura meio ano, que é notório o crescimento da Jack.
Sobre a resolução do assassinato de David Grant, achei o processo um pouco complicado de início, sem muitas pistas a serem dadas, mas gostei bastante da forma como tudo se resolveu no fim.
E o ship? Eu vivo para romances de amor-ódio! Não se nota nada a romântica em mim.
MAAAS, não sei que ship devo gravar numa árvore com um coração: J+T or J+K... Já vos disse que também amo triângulos amorosos? hahah

Once again Josie Jaffrey brings us her unique vampires that make us want to be Silver.
And before I start this review I wanted to make this clear: I love Josie's vampires! I love that the author doesn't make everything to be about human blood, drinking blood, killing for blood and constant descriptions about how good human blood is.
Yes, they are vampires, but they know how to control themselves (those who are civilized *cof cof * not Felton) and live practically like humans (the difference is that they have anatomical particularities that come from their condition as vampires and therefor they need blood to survive).

Jack Valentine is a member of the Seekers (kind of a Vampire CSI) and has to investigate a homicide, which is apparently caused by a Silver. And Jack is "dead" to prove that it was Killian Drake (his archenemy already known from the prequel Killian's Dead) who was responsible for the murder of David Grant. But everything points to Killian's innocence (at least in this case) and Jack is forced to cooperate with the Baron of Oxford in order to be able to follow the clues that her case leads to.

If I had been half reluctant with Jack Valentine in Killian's Dead, this book took away all my doubts that this character has huge potential!
Because of that prequel, I entered with uncertainty on May Day and I confess that it was the presence of Cam (the character is already known, at least, from the Sovereign series that I read and reviewed: The Gilded King, The Silver Queen and The Blood Prince) that it got me excited about this book in the first 100 pages, but after that typical period of getting to know the main character and when Jack begins to make bold decisions and that makes her grow so much as a character. There was a bold choice that completely set a "mark" in this story and transformed it!
About 20 years have passed since the prequel to the beginning of the book, but it is in the interval from the beginning of the book to the end, which doesn't even last half a year, that Jack's growth is notorious.
About the solving of the mystery of David Grant, I think it was a bit slow at first, but I really loved how it turned out.
And the ship? I live for love-hate novels! I live from that kind of romance!
Buuut, I don't know which ship I should carve in a tree with a heart: J+ T or J + K ... Have I even said that I love stories with love triangles too? hahah
