Este livro é um dos mais amorzinhos que li este ano.
Lara Jean tem a mesma mania que eu: escrever sobre o que sente e guardar isso numa caixa.
Um dia a caixa de chapéu em que Lara Jean guarda as cartas desaparece e com ela as cartas... Que foram enviadas aos destinatários, a.k.a os crushes da Lara Jean! E aí surge um triângulo amoroso (ou melhor, um quadrado amoroso!).
No meio de hormonas, namoros falsos e sentimentos verdadeiros, como é que Lara Jean vai resolver a embrulhada em que se meteu?
Revi nela os meus anos de adolescente em que tinha um diário e escrevia cartas para guardar numa caixa (que no meu caso era de sapatos).
E confesso que ainda sou um pouco Lara Jean no que toca a ser desastrada.
Acredito que esta personagem acaba por ser uma representação de muitas meninas na sua adolescência: cheia de crushs, amores platónicos, roupas diferentes e inabilidade para assumir o que sente.
Recomendo este romance a toda a gente, sem exceção. Penso que desde que se consiga perceber o intuito do livro e a leveza com que ele deve ser tratado pode adequar-se a qualquer idade, pois na verdade o objetivo deste livro não é educar ou transmitir propriamente uma mensagem mindblow que vira o teu mundo do avesso, mas sim desfrutar de um chick-lit, um romance levezinho de teenagers.
Por vezes precisamos de um livro leve e fofinho assim para descansar a alma dos livros cheios de mensagens encondidas nas entrelinhas.

This book is one of the most lovable books I've read so far this year.
Lara Jean has the same craze as I had: writing about her feelings and then keep them in a box.
So one day Lara's hat box suddendly disappears and with it the letters... that are sent to Lara Jean's crushes! And here comes a love triangle (or rather, a love square!).
In the midst of hormones, fake dating and true feelings, how does Lara Jean solve the mess she's gotten herself into?
I recognized the "teen Brenda" in Lara Jean because in those times I had a diary, used to write letters and keep them in a box (which in my case was a shoes box).
And I confess that I am still a bit like Lara Jean in what concerns to be clumsy.
I believe that this character turns out to be a representation of many girls in their teen years: full of crushes, platonic loves, different clothes and inability to assume her feelings.
I recommend this book to everyone, without exception. I think that as long as everyone realizes the purpose of the book and the lightness with which it must be treated, it can suit any age. In fact the purpose of this book is not to properly educate or to transmit a mindblow message that turns your world upside down, but it is rather to enjoy a chick-lit, a teenagers romance novel.
Sometimes we need a light, fluffy book like this to rest the soul of the books filled with messages between the lines.
À semelhança do que fiz no verão com a Maratona de Verão Momentos de Ataraxia, decidi que gostava de fazer algo do género para o final do ano. Como tal, decidi criar este desafio, não propriamente de natal, mas algo que nos fizesse encerrar o ano com livros. As categorias são as seguintes:

Similar to what I did in the summer (Summer Marathon) I decided that I would like to do something like that by the end of the year. As such, I decided to create a challenge, not just a Christmas challenge, but something to end the year with books. The categories are:
1. Read the oldest book in your TBR/wishlist of 2018
Read that book you have been thinking to read since the beginning of the year, but for some reason is always being overtaken by others. Dare yourself to read that one.
2. Read a book which story unfolds in Christimas or in the New Year's Festivities
3. Read the last book you purchased
I believe that some of you, like me, don't read a book immediately when it arrives to your home. And that's one of the reasons I have A LOT of books in my TBR shelf...
4. Read a book whose main topic is family
In this time of the year is celebrated the family, the union with the people we love the most. So read something related to this topic.
5. End at least one book you began reading and didn't finished OR read at least one continuation of a book
For all those who, like me, start to read more than one book at the same time, this is an important category! Read at least one book that you started and did not finish! Try to start the new year without half-read books. Also, if you have series of books that you want to finish, this is the challenge for you (for example, in my case I will probably read the last book of Hush Hush series).

There are no rules, if you want to read more than one book per category, great! The main goal of the challenge is to read everything you can, to try to complete everything that is pending and to have a lot of fun.

Apesar disso, senti que precisava de mais poemas, mais páginas, MAIS! Espero que a Gabriella nos presenteie com mais livros com escrita deste género!
Gabriella Ray mostra-nos que podemos amar e ser amados, amar os outros e amarmos-nos a nós próprias ainda mais, ser fortes e vulneráveis ao mesmo tempo.

Não é um livro com vocabulário difícil, pelo que recomendo a leitura a pessoas que não se sentem tão seguras a ler em inglês. Este é um ótimo livro para começar na aventura que é ler em inglês.

It is a very small book, it has about 50 pages, so it shows us that poetry does not have to be in large quantities, nor in complicated language, to conquer a space in our heart. Despite this, I felt I needed more poems, more pages, MORE! I hope Gabriella presents us with more books with this kind of writing!
Gabriella Ray shows us that we can love and be loved, love others and love ourselves even more, be strong and vulnerable at the same time.

Reading this book is a journey of wonderful emotions, we always want to feel more and more. After I finished the book, I began to reread the poems all over again.

It is not a book with difficult vocabulary, so I recommend it to people who feel insecure by reading in English. This is a great book to get you started on the adventure that is read in English.
Provavelmente não vai ser o melhor livro que vão ler na vossa vida, mas leiam e vão perceber porque o devem ler!
Sinopse: Melody tem onze anos e uma memória fotográfica. O seu cérebro é como uma câmara de filmar que está sempre ligada. SEMPRE. Não existe forma de o parar. Ela é a rapariga mais inteligente da sua escola, mas ninguém imagina que isso possa sequer ser possível.
A maioria das pessoas, incluindo os seus professores e médicos, não acredita que Melody seja capaz de aprender, e os seus dias são passados a ouvir as mesmas canções da pré-escola, uma e outra vez. Li este livro pouco depois de ler "Viver depois de ti" (resenha AQUI) e não consegui deixar de comparar ambos os livros. Por um lado havia alguém que experimentou uma vida de aventuras e mesmo conseguindo-se exprimir tomou a decisão de terminar com a sua vida. Por outro, temos uma criança que só quer ser capaz de comunicar e viver através das palavras. Vi força de vontade nos dois e se o primeiro me ensinou que temos que respeitar a opinião dos outros, o segundo ensinou-me que nós nunca, mas nunca, vamos ser capazes de entender verdadeiramente o que uma pessoa com estas condições pensa ou sente. A única coisa que podemos fazer é estar ao seu lado e lutar contra o preconceito.
Acredito que deve ser angustiante querer comunicar e não conseguir, principalmente quando existe um cérebro perfeitamente capaz de aprender e ao qual é imposto o estereótipo de "atrasado" ou "deficiente", que é o que acontece com Melody no livro. Como não é capaz de comunicar não consegue provar que é inteligente e tem que passar os seus dias a ouvir e ver a sua professora a ensinar o abecedário pela 1037463489738463948 vez (só de ler, eu já estava enervada, imagino quem ouve a mesma aula durante anos seguidos e não consegue dizer que quer aprender outras coisas!).
Que agonia! Acho que qualquer um se passava dos carretos caso tivesse que ouvir o som da letra B pela enésima vez.
Esta é uma leitura infanto-juvenil que ensina sobre a tolerância e esperança. Recomendo a leitura a pequenos e graúdos.

In this book we are told the story of Melody, an 11-year-old girl with cerebral palsy.
Melody is trapped within her body unable to speak, walk or write. And for someone with these limitations it is very difficult to show how smart she actually is.
Until her family found a way for her to communicate.
I read this book shortly after reading "Me before you" (review)
and I could not help comparing this two books. On one hand there was someone who experienced a life of adventure and had the chance to make and express the decision to end his life. On the other hand, we have a child who just wants to be able to communicate and live through words. I saw will power in both of them and if the first one taught me that we have to respect other opinions, the second one taught me that we will never be able to truly understand what a person in these conditions thinks or feels (unless we are that person). The only thing we can do is support them in the best way we can and fight against prejudice.
I believe it must be afflitive to want to communicate and not succeed, especially when there is a brain perfectly capable of learning and to which the stereotype of "backward" or "deficient" is imposed, which is what happens to Melody in the book. Since she is not able to communicate, she can't prove that she is intelligent and has to spend her days listening and seeing her teacher teaching the alphabet 1037463489738463948 times (just by reading it, I was unnerved, so let's imagine someone who hears the same lesson during years in a row and can not say that wants to learn other things!).
What agony! I think the wheels would completely come off to anyone who had to hear the sound of the B letter every day.
This is an infant-juvenile reading that teaches about tolerance and hope. Everyone should read this book!

Já não bastava isso como também a família de Nick encara Rachel como uma gold digger (a.k.a caçadora de fortunas), alguém que só pretende o dinheiro de Nick e dos Young.
Então Rachel começa a sofrer represálias por namorar com o futuro herdeiro da família Young.
Confesso que me irritou um pouco a Rachel sofrer, com tudo o que lhe faziam, e nunca dizer nada ao Nick! Deu vontade de arrancar a personagem do livro e dizer "Oh mulher, manda essas avestruzes interesseiras ir dar uma volta!", porém entendo que num mundo em que tudo é novo ela não queria que Nick percebesse que o "seu" mundo não estava a ser simpático para a sua cara-metade.
Paralelamente vamos também conhecendo a história de Astrid, prima de Nick e rainha do JetSet asiático, e do seu casamento que se está a deteriorar.
Gostei MUITO deste livro, apesar de ter levado 3 semanas a lê-lo! Não demorei a ler por o livro ser desinteressante, o problema foi mesmo ter lido numa edição em que a letra era extremamente pequena.
Ia ficando sem vista com esse tamanho de letra!

Tenho muita pena que o filme não chegue aos cinemas portugueses (pelo menos até agora não chegou). Mas televisões, comprem este filme por favor, nunca vos pedi nada!

This is the story of a family that is almost royalty in Singapore. As we get to know the various lineages of the family, and their perspectives, the story of Rachel Chu and Nick Young unwinds. They are a couple of university teachers who have been dating for 2 years by now, so Nick decides to invite Rachel to spend the summer with him in Singapore and attend to his best friend's wedding.
So, Rachel enters this world, of which she had absolutely no knowledge, and is a target of bad looks by all those interested in the Singapore's most desired bachelor. As it wasn't enough Nick's family sees Rachel as a gold digger, someone who only wants Nick and the Young's money.
So Rachel begins to suffer reprisals by dating the future heir of the Young family.
It annoyed me a little that Rachel suffered so much with everything they did and never said anything to Nick! I wanted to tear the character out of the book and say, "OMG send these ostriches for a ride!". Nevertheless, I understand that in a world where everything is new she didn't want Nick to realize that "his" world was not being nice to his soulmate.
At the same time we also get to know the story of Astrid, Nick's cousin and Queen of the Asian JetSet, and the story of her deteriorating marriage.
I really enjoyed this book, although it took me 3 weeks to read it! The reading wasn't slow because the book was uninteresting, the problem was that in my edition the lyrics were extremely small.
I was running out of sight with this font size!
This book is an icon of cultural empowerment. Starred by Asians, it becomes a point of reference for those who identify with these characters and culture.

Unfortunately the movie does not reach theaters in Portugal (at least so far it has not arrived). I hope that some TV stations buy this movie!

Adorei, adorei, A-DO-REI! Uma história linda. Li o livro em um dia e senti que, quando o terminei, tinha passado um século de aventuras.
No início do livro conhecemos uma Dylan curiosa para ir conhecer o pai, que se divorciou da mãe quando ela era pequena e nunca mais manteve contacto. Dylan entra no comboio para ir ter com ele e ao passar num túnel dá-se um acidente terrível. Inicialmente ela acha que foi a única sobrevivente, todavia, depois de conhecer Tristan, um rapaz da sua idade que estava ao fundo do túnel, começa a aperceber-se que algo não está bem. E é-lhe então explicado que morreu e Tristan é o guia que a ajudará a atravessar as terras perdidas em direção ao local onde a alma dela estará a salvo para a eternidade.
À partida questionei-me se o livro iria resultar, visto que os diálogos entre Tristan e Dylan teriam que ser extremamente completos para não nos aborrecermos e acreditem quando vos digo que: não aborrecem, muito pelo contrário!
Todo o livro é uma reflexão constante sobre a vida e a morte e, claro, como eles se apaixonam a questão que fica no ar é sempre "Será que o amor deles irá superar a morte?".
O único ponto menos positivo a apontar seria talvez o relacionamento com a mãe. Não consigo entender o fosso que existe entre as duas e, sinceramente, quando Dylan descobre que está morta até nem parece dar grande relevância a nunca mais poder estar com a mãe. Posso estar enganada neste sentido, mas pelo menos foi aquilo que senti.
"O Barqueiro" tem todos os pontos que aprecio num bom livro: romance cliché, um casal invejável, magia e boa escrita. A autora agarra-nos à história como poucas conseguem.
Não posso deixar de mencionar que a edição, tanto a capa como a ilustração que se encontra no início dos capítulos, está muito bem conseguida!
Este é sem dúvida um dos melhores livros que li na minha vida. No fim há um excerto da sequela e só vos tenho a dizer que a quero ler para ontem. Quero mesmo saber como a história irá continuar! Sem dúvida que recomendo a leitura. Não se irão arrepender!
Lamento que a esta resenha seja curtinha, mas por vezes quando adoro o livro tenho uma ENORME dificuldade em falar dele, por um lado porque há tanta coisa por dizer, e não quero dar spoilers, e por outro porque fico sem palavras para descrever o quanto achei o livro incrível.
A sério, leiam e vão perceber porque fiquei encantada.

I read the book in one day and it felt that, by the time I finished it, a century of adventures had passed.
At the beginning of the book we met a curious Dylan, a girl that is going to meet her father, who divorced her mother when she was a little girl and never kept in touch. Dylan enters on a train to go meet him and when the train goes through a tunnel a terrible accident happens. Initially, she thinks that she was the only survivor, nevertheless, after meeting Tristan, a boy of her age standing on the end of the tunnel, she begins to realize that something is not right. Then it is explained to her that she is dead and Tristan is the guide who will help her cross the lost lands towards the place where her soul will be safe for eternity.
At the outset I wondered if the book would work, since the dialogues between Tristan and Dylan would have to be extremely complete, so that we do not get bored, and believe me when I tell you: they are not boring, quite the opposite!
The whole book is a constant reflection on life and death and of course, as they fall in love, the question that remains is always "Will their love overcome death?".
The only less positive thing to point out would be the relationship with the mother. I can not understand the gap between the two, and frankly when Dylan discovers that she is dead, she does not seem to give much importance to never being able to be with her mother again. I may be mistaken by thinking this, but at least that's what I felt.
"Ferryman" has all the things that I appreciate in a good book: a cliche romance, an enviable couple, magic and good writing. The author grabs us to the story as few can.
I can not fail to mention that the edition, both the cover and the illustration, that is at the beginning of the chapters, is very well done!
This is undoubtedly one of the best books I've read in my life. At the end there is an excerpt from the sequel and I only have to say that I want to read it for yesterday. I really want to know how the story will continue! Definitely recommend the reading. You will not regret it!
I regret that this review is short, but sometimes when I love the book I have a HUGE difficulty speaking of it, on one hand because there is so much to be said, and I do not want to give spoilers, and on the other hand because I have no words to describe how much I found the book incredible.
Seriously, read it and you'll see why I'm enchanted.

Nada é expectável neste livro, a não ser o casal romântico, claro!
Gostei especialmente das passagens em que Sofia acaba por falar um pouco da tristeza profunda que sente recorrendo àquela filosofia barata que nos ganha o coração e nos faz identificar profundamente com o que ela sente e pensa.
Se procuram livros com histórias diferentes este é o livro ideal. Se procuram um(a) autor(a) nacional este é um livro que têm que ler obrigatoriamente!

I especially liked the passages in which Sofia ends up talking about some of the deep sadness she feels, that she describes resorting to that cheap philosophy that wins our hearts and makes us deeply identify with what she feels and thinks.
If you are looking for books with different stories this is the ideal book. If you are looking for a portuguese author, this is a book that you must read!

Read at least one book that you started and did not finish! Try to start the new year without half-read books. Also, if you have series of books that you want to finish, this is the challenge for you (for example, in my case I will probably read the last book of Hush Hush series).
