Este livro saiu em 2009, isto é, há quase 10 anos! E como é que é possível que só o tenha lido agora??? A Míriam do Prólogos e Epílogos fartou-se de me recomendar este livro e só agora decidi dar uma oportunidade a esta saga.
Sinceramente eu não sabia bem do que se tratava o livro até que quando o decidi comprar e ler a sinopse, descobri que era sobre anjos, nomeadamente anjos caídos.
Achei imediatamente o tema do livro sensacional! Nunca tinha lido nada sobre anjos.
Então o livro começa com a apresentação de Nora Grey, que está sempre sozinha em casa devido ao trabalho da sua mãe. Nora é a típica adolescente de secundário, faz os trabalhos de casa, lê e gosta de sair com a sua melhor amiga.
Porém, quando o professor de ciências decide mudar a ordem dos lugares na aula de Biologia, a vida de Nora muda por completo. Conhece Patch, um rapaz misterioso, que não lhe diz nada sobre si mas parece saber tudo sobre ela.
Saem algumas vezes e coisas estranhas acontecem. Nora está decidida a descobrir quem é Patch e o que é que ele esconde por detrás daquela imagem misteriosa, pelo que a trama acaba por se desenrolar em volta deste rapaz e do que ele esconde, nomeadamente a sua verdadeira identidade.
O livro está envolto num clima sombrio, envolve novos colegas de secretária na aula de Biologia, olhos negros e muito mistério em volta do protagonista masculino. Lembra ou não lembra Twilight? Pelo menos a mim lembrou!
Este livro fez-me recordar o clima do secundário e aquelas paixonetas irracionais que temos nessas idades.
Para ser sincera, não achei o livro muito empolgante, talvez o próximo livro tenha mais acção... (e vou descobrir em breve porque sou uma pessoa louca que apanhou a coleção toda em promoção e comprou os livros todos de uma vez!)
Li o livro em 1 dia, e penso que muito se deveu ao facto de ler, ler e continuar a ler à espera que houvesse um evento incrível que me agarrasse ao livro, mas não, o livro continuou sempre morno.
O livro não teve acontecimentos que me agarrassem, a não ser pela minha expectativa de continuar a ler para ver se acontecia algo empolgante.
Não nego que gostei da história, até porque costumava ver uma série sobre anjos de nome "Dominion" e amava de coração (e que infelizmente foi cancelada)! Porém ao ler este livro senti que já sou demasiado "velha" para este tipo de histórias. Já não tenho paciência para ler sobre romances do secundário que não acrescentam grande emoção/acção ao enredo.
É claro que gosto de um bom romance, mas penso que este foi um pouco forçado. Teve muitas pontas soltas.
Não obstante, achei o final muuuito surpreendente e aguardo com muita expectativa a leitura dos próximos livros.
Houve alturas em que pensei que a Nora devia estar a alucinar ou até a transformar-se num anjo (por ser o tema central do livro) e por isso estava meia louca.
Gostei muito do Patch, achei-o muito carismático!
Em suma, aguardo que nos próximos livros a história dê um UP, porque este tema tem MUUUUITO potencial.

Em termos de classificação não é bem um 3, porque 3 parece-me relativamente pouco, mas também não chegou à categoria do 4, não me encheu as medidas entendem? Por isso dei um 3 no Goodreads mas para todos os efeitos o livro é um 3,5 (que não é arredondado no meu coração AHAHAH) e espero com expectativa que a história seja muito mais bem aproveitada nos próximos livros!

has been recommending me this book for a long time and I have now decided to give this saga a chance.
I honestly was not sure what the book was about until I decided to buy it and read the synopsis, I discovered that it was about angels, especially fallen angels.
I immediately found the topic of the book sensational! I've never read anything about angels.
So the book begins with the presentation of Nora Grey, a girl who is always alone at home because her mother is always working. Nora is a typical high school teenager, does her homework, reads and likes to hang out with her best friend.
However, when the science teacher decides to change the order of places in Biology class, Nora's life changes completely. She meets Patch, a mysterious boy, who tells him nothing about himself but seems to know everything about her.
They go on dates a few times and strange things happen. Nora is determined to find out who Patch is and what he hides behind that mysterious image, so the plot ends up unfolding around this boy and what he hides, namely his true identity.
The book is wrapped in a dark environment, engages new desk mates in Biology class, black eyes and a lot of mystery around the male protagonist. Makes us remember Twilight, doesn't it? At least it reminded me a lot!
This book reminded me of highschool and those irrational crushes we use to have with that age.
To be honest, I did not found the book very exciting, maybe the next book will have more action... (and I'll find out soon because I'm a crazy person who saw the whole collection in a promotion and bought the books all at once!)
I read the book in a day, and I think it was due to reading, reading, and reading more, waiting for an incredible event to take hold of the book, but no, the plot was always "warm".
There were no events in the book that gripped me, except for my expectation of continuing to read to see if anything exciting was going to happen.
I do not deny that I liked the story, even because I used to see a series about angels named "Dominion" and loved it from the heart (and unfortunately it was canceled)! But by reading this book I have already felt that I am too "old" for this kind of stories. I no longer have the patience to read about highschool novels that do not add great emotion/ action to the plot.
Of course I like a good novel, but I think this one was a bit forced. This book had many loose ends.
Nevertheless, I found the end soooo surprising and I look forward to read the next books.
There were times when I thought that Nora must have been hallucinating or even turning into an angel (for being the central theme of the book) and so that was why she been acting crazy.
I really liked Patch, I think he is very charismatic!
In short, I hope that in the next books the story gives an UP, because this topic has SOOOOO much potential.

In terms of ranking is not quite 3 stars, because 3 seems a quite little ranking for me, but also did not reach the category of 4. So I gave a 3 on Goodreads, but for all purposes the book is a 3,5 (which is not rounded in my heart AHAHAH) and I look forward to see if the story is much better taken advantage of in the next books!

Um livro curto, sensual e muito divertido.
Quando comecei a ler o livro já não me lembrava da sinopse e no início, estava um pouco confusa em relação à Mallory. Não sabia se era mulher, se era homem porque o nome me parecia unisexo. Também não sei se foi por falta de atenção em alguma referência ao facto de ela ser mulher, mas só sei que adorei não saber o género da personagem principal de início. A sério, pareceu que elevou o livro a um nível em que são "pessoas a apaixonar-se por pessoas" e gostei dessa perspectiva.
No entanto, senti-me um pouco enganada ao ler o livro porque quando vi no Net Galley pensei: Bem, é romance e LGBT, deve ser daqueles romances fofinhos e leves para ler no verão. Bem, é romance LGBT? É! Mas deviam acrescentar à categoria "Erotica"!
Não estava nada à espera de um livro à la "50 sombras".
Além disso achei que a parte que é mencionada na sinopse do livro é relativamente curta, esperava que demorassem mais tempo a ver casas e a construir o "relacionamento", mas well acho que isso também se deveu um pouco ao romance ser mais voltado para a luxúria e não propriamente para o amor (como eu esperava).
Achei as personagens MUITO carismáticas e os diálogos foram muito divertidos. Penso que este livro é um abre olhos em determinados aspetos e incide numa temática que penso ser inédita. Pelo menos em Portugal nunca vi nada deste género! ;)

When I started reading the book I could not remember the synopsis and at first, I was a little confused about Mallory.I did not know if I she was a woman or a man because the name seemed unisex too me.I also do not know if it was for lack of attention in some reference to the fact that she is a woman, but I only know that I loved not knowing the gender of the main character at first.Seriously, it seemed that it elevated the book to a level where they are "people falling in love with people" and I liked that perspective.
However, I felt a bit misled when reading the book because when I saw it on the Net Galley I thought: Well, it's romance and LGBT, it must be those fluffy and light novels to read in the summer.Well, is it LGBT romance?IT IS!But they should add to the category "Erotica"!
I was not expecting a book in the "50 shades" vibe.
I also found that the part that is mentioned in the synopsis of the book is relatively short, I hoped it would take longer to see homes for Corinne and to build the "relationship", but well I think that this was also due a little by the fact that the novel is more related withlust and not properly related with love (as I expected).
I found the characters VERY charismatic and the dialogues were funny.I think this book is an eye opener in certain aspects and focuses on a theme that I think is unprecedented.At least in Portugal I have never seen anything like this!;)

Este livro conta a história de Whitney Stone, uma rapariga irreverente que está perdidamente apaixonada por Paul Sevarin.
Mas Whitney é apenas uma criança de 15 anos, órfã de mãe, que ainda não foi apresentada à sociedade,cujo pai, cansado das suas rebeldias, decide mandá-la para França com os tios, Lord Gilbert e a sua mulher, para que lhe dessem a educação que ele nunca conseguira incutir nela.
Em França aprende a ser uma senhora elegante e pelo meio de toda essa aventura conhece Clayton Westmoreland, o duque de Claymore, que logo percebe que aquela é a mulher certa para ser sua esposa.
Então, Clayton, ainda sem conhecer a noiva, pede ao pai de Whitney a sua mão em casamento, mas pede segredo, para que possa cortejar a moça e convencê-la a casá-lo consigo por livre vontade.
Mas óbvio que não tem o serviço facilidado. Whitney está apaixonadíssima por Paul e para tirar os seus olhos dele será muito difícil!
O Clayton lembrou-me muito o Royce do primeiro livro e a Whitney parecia uma versão da Jenny mais teimosa e "jogadora". SIM, jogadora! Porque muitas das vezes a situação resolvia-se se ela dissesse logo o que pretendia e não andasse com rodeios e joguinhos.
O livro está cheio de peripécias engraçadas e devo admitir que se o Clayton não atinava eu já ia começar a shipar Whitney com o Stephen, o irmão dele.
O Stephen tem atitudes muito engraçadas e no fim do livro acabei por achar que ele merecia mais destaque. AAAAA, fiquei mesmo angustiada com o final dele! Mas depois fiquei SUPER feliz quando vi as notas da autora no fim explicando que escreveu um livro inteiramente dedicado ao Stephen. Já quero!
É um romance cheio de momentos engraçados. Houve personagens como o Sr. Baskerville que sempre que dizia algo sobre Whitney ficava com a impressão que o Clayton ficava possesso com ele. Fartei-me de rir à gargalhada com essas cenas caricatas.
O único ponto negativo a assinalar é a extensão do livro. Achei que depois do casamento o livro começou a ser maçador. Senti que queria acabar o livro e ainda faltava tanto... Penso que a história podia ter alguns cortes em certas partes menos necessárias.
Sim, é necessário perceber um pouco o antes e o depois do casamento, as constantes e as mudanças que o compromisso lhes trouxe, mas penso que se podia ter minimizado as reviravoltas.
Mas claro que não deixa de ser uma história magnífica que me pôs a rir e a torcer para que o Clayton e a Whitney finalmente sucumbissem ao amor que sentiam um pelo outro e se entregassem com confiança um no outro.
Judith McNaught é definitivamente das minhas escritoras favoritas de todos os tempos! Escreve cada romance histórico incrível... É de suspirar! Apesar do que disse no post sobre o primeiro livro sobre os livros poderem ser lidos em qualquer ordem, retiro o que disse! Penso que faz muito mais sentido ler "Um Reino de Sonhos" e só então depois "Whitney, Meu amor" e o último " Até te conhecer". Ainda não adquiri a última obra mas já está no 1º lugar da minha wishlist. Sei também que esta coleção continua com mais livros sobre personagens do "Whitney, meu amor" e mal posso esperar que essas obras cheguem a Portugal (a carteira é que não vai gostar muito)!
Por último, gostava de dizer que tenho um desejo incrível que estes livros se tornem séries, pois a escrita e a história são tão boas que os acho são extremamente visuais. À medida que lia o livro conseguia imaginar perfeitamente o que estava a acontecer e imaginava como é que os episódios de uma suposta série iria ficar!

This is the second book of the Westmoreland Dynasty (you can find the review of the first book HERE), although in fact this book was the first that the author wrote about the Westmoreland.
And although it is said that this books can be read in any order, it makes more sense to first read the book "A Kingdom of Dreams" and then read this one.
This book tells the story of Whitney Stone, an irreverent girl who is passionately in love by Paul Sevarin.
But Whitney is only a 15-year-old motherless orphan who has not yet been introduced to society, whose father, tired of her rebellions, decides to send her to France with her uncles, Lord Gilbert and his wife, so she can have the education he had never been able to instill in her.
In France she learns to be an elegant lady and through the middle of all this adventure meets Clayton Westmoreland, the Duke of Claymore, who soon realizes that she is the right woman to be his wife.
Then, Clayton, still not "knowing" the bride, asks Whitney's father for her hand in marriage, but asks for secrecy, so that he may court the girl and persuade her to marry him freely.
But it's obvious that he doesn't have an easy task.Whitney is in love with Paul and to take her eyes off of him will be very difficult!
Clayton reminded me a lot of Royce of the first book and Whitney looked like Jenny's most stubborn and "player" version. YES, player! Because many times the situation would be resolved if she said what she wanted and did not go around with games.
The book is full of funny adventures, and I must admit that if Clayton didn't gain any wisdom, I was going to start shiping Whitney with Stephen, his brother.
Stephen has very funny attitudes and by the end of the book I think he deserved more prominence. AAAAA, I was really distressed at the end of it! But then I was SUPER happy when I saw the author's notes at the end explaining that she wrote a book entirely devoted to Stephen. I already want that book!
It's a novel full of funny moments. There were characters like Mr. Baskerville that whenever he said something about Whitney he got the impression that Clayton was possessed with him. I laughed so hard at these funny scenes.
The only negative point to note is the length of the book. I figured after the wedding the book started to be a little bit boring. I felt that I wanted to finish the book and still lacked so much of it... I think the story could have some cuts in certain parts that I considered less necessary.
Yes, it is necessary to understand the "before" and "after" the wedding, the constants and the changes that the commitment brought them, but I think that the twists could be minimized.
But of course it's a magnificent story that made me laugh and cheer so Clayton and Whitney would finally succumb to their love for each other and confidently surrendered to each other.
Judith McNaught is definitely one of my favorite writers of all time! She writes incredible historical novels ... I sigh every single page! Has I said before, despite what I said in the post about the first book, that this books can be read in any order, I take back what I said!I think it makes a lot more sense to read "A Kingdom of Dreams" and only then "Whitney, My Love" and the last "Until I meet you."I have not yet acquired the last book but it is already in the 1st place of my wishlist.I also know that this collection continues with more books about characters from "Whitney, my love" and I can not wait for these works to arrive in Portugal (I guess my wallet is not going to like this very much AHAH)!
Finally, I would like to say that I have an incredible desire to see this books turned into a tv show, because the writing and the story are so good that I find them extremely visual.As I read the book I could perfectly imagine what was happening and wondered how the episodes of a supposed series would be!

Este livro é uma compilação de poemas que pretendem descrever a mulher moderna.
Este não é daqueles livros que possa dizer que devorei. Li rápido, mas não devorei.
Considerei alguns dos poemas bonitos, mas no geral não senti muita afinidade ao que estava escrito, não me consegui conectar emocionalmente com o livro.
Esta é uma das reviews que mais me custou fazer pois resenhar poesia é muito difícil, visto que o que para mim pode ser razoável, para outra pessoa pode ser excelente.
O meu poema favorito é foi o "A Arte da Solidão". Deixo-vos de seguida um pequeno excerto desse poema.
I tell my sisters:
cultivate loneliness
like you might care for
an orchid, turning it gently towards the light,
serving it water like wine
aerated, purified, filtered.
E uma das minhas frases favoritas:
"You may learn to sleep throught the night, warmed by the tought of your own existence".
Apesar disso, um dos prós do livro é que não apresenta "frases feitas", isto é aquela frases cliché, o que normalmente acontece em livros de poesia. Muito pelo contrário, existem pelo meio dos poemas frases incríveis com muito potencial para serem divulgadas e se tornarem icónicas (e vamos admitir, que vão dar um show nas descrições das fotos do instagram.
Se recomendo este livro? Sim, mas talvez a um público mais maduro e que se possa relacionar com o que está descrito.
Talvez quando tiver outra maturidade volte a ler o livro e aí já sinta a afinidade que esperava sentir.
Por isso decidi dar uma cotação de 2,75, porque não merece nem um 2, nem um 3. Mas para todos os efeitos, vou arredondar e dar 3.

This is not one of those books I can say I devoured.I read it quickly for sure, but I did not devoured it.
I considered some of the poems beautiful, but overall I did not feel much affinity for what was written, I could not connect emotionally with the book.
This is one of the reviews that cost me the most, because reviewing poetry is very difficult, since what for me may be reasonable, for someone else can be excellent.
My favorite poem was "The Art of Loneliness", which I leave an excerpt here:
I tell my sisters:
cultivate loneliness
like you might care for
an orchid, turning it gently towards the light,
serving it water like wine
aerated, purified, filtered.
And one of my favorite quotes:
"You may learn to sleep throught the night, warmed by the tought of your own existence".
Despite this, one of the pros of the book is that it does not present "made phrases", a.k.a those typical cliché phrases, which usually happens in poetry books.On the contrary, in the middle of the poems there are incredible phrases with a lot of potential to be spread and become iconic (and let's face it, they'll be AWESOME in the descriptions of instagram photos AHAH).
Would you recommend this book?Yes, but perhaps to a more mature audience that can relate to what is described. Maybe when I gain another maturity I will reread the book and feel the affinity I expected to feel now.
So I decided to give 2.75 stars, because it deserves neither a 2 nor a 3. But in the final I will round and give this book a 3. Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)

Esta livro conta a história de Caymen Meyers, uma rapariga com 17 anos, que ajuda na loja de bonecas de porcelana da mãe e que acha que conhece os "ricos" como conhece a palma da sua mão. Para ela os ricos só sabem gastar o seu dinheiro em coisas inúteis, nomeadamente, bonecas de porcelana (e admitemos, ainda bem que eles eram estúpidos ao ponto de comprar as bonecas se não mais ninguém comprava né? :p )
Então, quando Xander, o filho de um famoso dono de hotéis lhe entra pela loja adentro à procura de um presente para a avó, Caymen tira-lhe logo as medidas e percebe que ele não passa de mais um rico arrogante. Apesar de Xander ser rico, acaba por atrair Caymen com o seu charme e capacidade de lhe entender o que vai na cabeça (e no coração).
Caymen pensa que é uma experiência da fase de "vamos ver como a outra metade vive".
Sinceramente nunca acreditei muito na versão de que ele só a estava a usar para desanuviar, mas como a mãe dela sempre a convenceu que a única função dos ricos era partir corações a raparigas que confiavam neles, Caymen poucas hipóteses lhe dá.
Mas a companhia de Xander começa a tornar-se uma constante na sua vida e Caymen não sabe como se sentir em relação a isso. A mãe não iria aprovar esse relacionamento pelo que Caymen mantém tudo em segredo.
Mas segredos são perigosos e criam distâncias entre as pessoas...
A leitura é bastante acessível e engraçada. Penso que este livro é ideal para ler depois de uma ressaca literária porque tem uma ótima dose de humor. A Caymen é excecional a ser sarcástica, muito carismática.
O que concluí é que "a distância entre nós os dois" não se devia tanto ao facto de a Caymen ser pobre e o Xander rico e isso constituir algum tipo de barreira entre eles, mas penso que essa "distância" do título do livro está associada à distância que ela mantinha do pai, que a mãe mantinha dos seus próprios pais e que ela própria mantinha da mãe por guardar segredos.
Penso que este livro aborda diferentes "distâncias", diferentes amores e diferentes pessoas, acima de tudo, diferentes sonhos, prioridades e objetivos de vida.
Com 17 anos é normal não sabermos o que queremos e mais normal ainda é os pais quererem impôr-nos algo que acham que é o melhor para nós e tomarem decisões por nós. Óbvio que com essa idade há muitas decisões que precisam de ser tomadas por eles, mas também era preciso que esta mãe falasse abertamente com a filha e lhe dissesse "A loja de bonecas de porcelana é o meu sonho, não o teu! Descobre aquilo que gostas de fazer e foca-te nisso. "E faltou um pouco isso...

I honestly never believed much in the version that he was only using her though an unwind phase, but since her mother had always convinced her that the only function of the rich was to break the hearts of the girls who trusted them, Caymen doesn't give him even a little chance.
But the company of Xander begins to become a constant in his life and Caymen does not know how to feel in relation to this.The mother would not approve of this relationship so Caymen keeps everything a secret.
But secrets are dangerous and create distances between people ...
The reading is quite accessible and funny. I think this book is ideal for reading after a book hangover because it has a great dose of humor. Caymen is exceptional in sarcasm and super charismatic.
What I have concluded is that "the distance between us" was not so much due to the fact that Caymen is poor and Xander rich and this is some kind of barrier between them, but I think that this "distance" from the title of the book is associated with the distance she kept from her father, the distance her mother kept from her parents and which she herself kept from her mother for keeping secrets from her.

Escrevo isto uns segundos depois de acabar o livro. Sinto que preciso de colocar no papel o que sinto sobre este livro, sobre esta história.
Escrevo isto ainda de lágrimas nos olhos.
Este é um livro que estava/está fora da minha zona de conforto (Maratona Momentos de Ataraxia), porque nunca tinha ouvido falar na autora e, acima de tudo, porque nunca tinha lido nenhum livro sobre guerras etc (sim, nem mesmo O Diário de Anne Frank), mas agora posso dizer que já percebi porque nunca antes tinha lido um livro assim: Medo. Medo de ler uma história contada por alguém real que descreva a crueldade que tantas vezes me foi transmitida nas aulas de História mas que nunca compreendi. Como poderia compreender se nunca a vivi? Se nunca tive que lutar pela liberdade que hoje tenho?
Inconscientemente nunca li nada sobre guerras porque sabia que assim que lê-se a minha fé na humanidade ia ficar no chão. E ficou...
Fico tão revoltada por ter havido um tempo em que havia humanos que tratavam tão desumanamente outros... Só porque eram de outra religião, de outra nacionalidade, diferentes em qualquer outra coisa. Fico tão revoltada por esses eventos terem ocorrido há menos de 100 anos! Como é que é possível?? COMO?
Prender pessoas, submetê-las a trabalho forçado, deixá-las com medo, desnutridas, presas, ...
E como é que é possível que isso ainda aconteça caramba? Como é que é possível ainda haver guerras e tanta crueldade num mundo tecnologicamente tão avançado mas emocionalmente retardado?
Sei que por todo este ambiente de pesadelos, falta de liberdade, morte iminente e tudo o que é descrito não devia ser permitido achar a história bonita, mas caramba, que história...
Este livro conta a história de um judeu que conseguiu sobreviver a 3 anos num campo de concentração. Foram 3 anos de muito sofrimento, insegurança e, acima de tudo, esperança que um dia conseguiria sair dali.
A Lale, como se chama o nosso protagonista, foi incumbido o serviço de tatuar todos os recém-chegados ao campo. Sendo o tetrovier, isto é, o tatuador, tinha direito a uma ração extra e a uma maior liberdade de circulação. Assim Lale conseguiu contrabandear e tentar ser uma faísca de esperança num local que precisava desesperadamente de uma luz.
No meio deste terror, Lale conheceu Gita, a rapariga que lhe roubou o coração para sempre.
Impressionante como num ambiente destes ainda houve espaço para amar, o que me faz crer que o amor é tudo na vida. O amor é aquilo que os sustentou e lhes deu esperança de que um dia iriam sair dali e viver o seu amor ao máximo, sem restrições, sem discriminações e em segurança.
Ainda me escorrem mais lágrimas (de alívio) quando penso que houve quem sobrevivesse para contar a história, que houve quem conseguisse sair e voltar a provar a liberdade que lhe foi retirada.
Esta história é um conto de pequenos atos de liberdade num campo de concentração . Esta história é sobre uma faísca de esperança numa altura em que a humanidade se envergonhou a si própria submetendo pessoas às situações mais desumanas que existem. E o ciclo perdura sem prazo para terminar...

This is a book that was / is outside of my comfort zone

I'm so revolted that there had been a time when there were humans who treated so inhumanly others ... Just because they were from another religion, from another nationality, different in any other way. I am so disgusted that these events took place less than 100 years ago! How is it possible?? How?
Arresting people, subjecting them to forced labor, leaving them scared, malnourished, prisoners, ...
And how is it possible that this still happens? How can there still be wars and such cruelty in a technologically advanced world? We may be advanced in technology but we live in a emotionally, and humanely, retarded world.
I know that for all this atmosphere of nightmares, lack of freedom, imminent death and everything that is described should not be allowed to find the story beautiful, but damn, what a story...
This book tells the story of a jew who managed to survive 3 years in a concentration camp. It was 3 years of suffering, insecurity and, above all, hope that one day he could get out of there.
Lale, as our protagonist is called, was assigned the service of tattooing all the newcomers of the camp. Being the tetrovier, that is, the tattooist, he was entitled to an extra ration and a greater freedom of movement. So Lale managed to smuggle and try to be a spark of hope in a place that desperately needed a light.

I'm still crying in this point of the review, but it's tears of relief. Reliefed that there were those who survived "to tell the story", that there was someone who got out and taste again the freedom that was withdrawn.

Confesso que no início este livro lembrou-me muito o caso da Maddie que foi raptada no Algarve há 11 anos. Pareceu-me o thriller cliché em que culpam os pais por terem deixado a bebé (recém-nascida) sozinha em casa.
Mas nada é o que parece neste livro!
No começo é logo apresentada uma mãe com depressão pós-parto, da qual o detetive tem como principal suspeita. E logo aí as coisas descambam... Relativamente à depressão dela, a autora, descreveu um tanto de conceitos errados que eu presumo que apenas se devem verificar por uma fonte pouco fidedigna. Nunca vi tanto exagero de sintomas em volta de um assunto tão sério e delicado.
Ter um bebé mudou-a não só fisicamente e psicologicamente como também a mudou em termos sociais. Não sai de casa, não convive com mais ninguém a não ser a família e tornou-se uma pessoa extremamente insegura em relação ao seu corpo e à aceitação do marido.
Então quando surge a oportunidade de irem jantar com os amigos e principalmente com Cynthia, que era amiga de Anne antes desta engravidar, todos pensam que esta é uma oportunidade de Anne sair de casa e desanuviar a cabeça.
O problema é quando a baby sitter cancela à última da hora e Marco, o marido de Anne, sugere que deixem a bebé em casa a dormir, levem o intercomunicador e se revezem a ir ver a menina de meia em meia hora.
Tudo parece dar certo, até que quando chegam a casa a bebé não está no seu berço e a porta da frente está aberta.
O que me deu mais agonias foi não haver pistas! Dava por mim a pensar: Ai meu Deus, como vão encontrar a miúda se não há pistas?
Por um lado temos o detective a querer fazer da mãe a principal suspeita e de outro vemos o sofrimento de uma mãe que apesar de ter depressão pós-parto ama a filha como nunca amou ninguém e que se esforça diariamente por ser a melhor mãe possível, apesar do seu transtorno.
Apesar de ter partilhado no stories do meu instagram que achava que a história tinha ido pelo cano abaixo, por volta da página 100, quando revelaram quem tinha raptado a menina, penso que a autora conseguiu dar ao livro uma reviravolta fenomenal. Expectável, mas ainda assim muito boa!
Esta é daquelas histórias que dão muito que falar: pais que deixam uma filha em casa a dormir enquanto vão jantar à casa dos vizinhos do lado... Algo que acaba por ser muito falado na comunidade e ao longo da história vamos aprendendo a olhar para está história de todos os ângulos.
E é óbvio que vamos desconfiar de toda a gente! Cada vez que se descobriam novas pistas eu arranjava mais um suspeito para a minha lista.
Penso que com este livro fica bem claro que apesar de conhecermos uma pessoa toda a nossa vida nunca sabemos o que lhe vai verdadeiramente na alma, não sabemos o que a move, e isso é algo que a pode tornar extremamente perigosa.
É um livro bem rápido de ler, ótimo para quem quer uma leitura fluida.

I confess that at the beginning this book reminded me so much of the Maddie's case, a little girl that was abducted 11 years ago in Algarve. It seemed to me the cliché thriller where they blame the parents for leaving the baby alone at home.
But in this book nothing is what it seems!
Right in the beggining is introduced a mother with postpartum depression, the main suspect from the dectetive working in the case. And then things fall apart... The author made a terrible mistake the way she described depression, honestly! There are even "wrong information" that I assume should only be verified by an unreliable source. I have never seen so much exaggeration of symptoms around such a serious and delicate subject.
Having a baby changed Anne not only physically and psychologically but also changed her social life. She does not leave the house, she does not talk with anyone but the family and she has become extremely insecure about her body and the acceptance of her husband.
So when it comes to having dinner with friends and especially with Cynthia, Anne's friend before she became pregnant, everyone thinks this is an opportunity for Anne to leave the house and clear her mind.
The problem is when the baby sitter cancels at the last minute and Marco, Anne's husband, suggests they leave the baby at home asleep, take the intercom and take turns going to see the baby every half hour.
Everything seems to work, until when they get home and the baby is not in their crib and the front door is open.
What gave me most agonies was that there were no clues! I thought: Oh my God, how will you find the girl if there are no clues?
In one hand we have the detective wanting to make the mother the main suspect and in the other we see the suffering of a mother who despite having depression loves her daughter as never loved anyone and who strives daily to be the best mother possible, despite her disorder.
Although I shared in my instagram stories that I thought the story had gone down, around page 100, when they revealed who kidnapped the baby, I think the author was able to give the book a phenomenal twist. Expectable, but still very good!
This is one of those plots that leaves a lot to talk about: parents who leave a daughter at home asleep while they go to dinner at the neighbor's house next door. Something that ends up being very talked about in the community and while reading the book we learn to look from all angles of the story.
And it is obvious that we will distrust everyone! Every time new clues were discovered I got another suspect on my list.
I think that with this book it is very clear that although we know a person our whole life we never know what is truly in their soul, we do not know what moves it, and this is something that can make that person extremely dangerous.
It is a very fast book to read, great for anyone who wants a fluent reading.
