Antes de ler este livro já muito tinha ouvido falar dele, principalmente por posts de bookbloggers e bookinstagrammers, e até já o tinha na minha wishlist.
Por isso quando a autora me contactou para ler e resenhar, de forma honesta, o seu livro em ebook fiquei radiante!
Ao Teu Lado é um livro que fala sobre amizade, amor e sobre o destino.
Começa por contar a história de Ana e Miguel, duas crianças que se conhecem numas férias de verão no Alentejo. Inicialmente as coisas não começam muito bem, Miguel sente-se angustiado por ser pobre e não ter crianças da sua idade com quem brincar. Por isso quando Ana o vê e se mostra curiosa em relação às roupas de Miguel, este foge da menina e não quer ser seu amigo.
Mas Ana é teimosa e acredita que aquela amizade tem futuro. Assim, as diferenças acabam por ser esquecidas e tornam-se amigos.
Com a sua amizade veio uma grande cumplicidade e Miguel, que nunca teve uma infância "normal", acaba por ir viver com Ana para Lisboa para poder concretizar um dos seus maiores sonhos: ir à escola.
Entretanto crescem, têm sonhos diferentes, mas a sua amizade une-os mais do que nunca.
Mas será que desta grande amizade não é capaz de nascer um amor épico?
Não gostei particularmente da escrita da autora. Não que não seja boa, mas simplesmente já não me identifico com este tipo de escrita que me parece mais indicada para leitores infanto-juvenis. Como me habituei ao longo dos últimos anos a tipos de escrita diferentes acabei por não achar esta muito fluída. Porém, não é por simplesmente já não estar habituada que significa que Ao teu Lado é um livro mal escrito. Até porque ao ler este livro lembrei-me dos tempos em que comecei a ler as obras da Alice Vieira ou Ana Maria Magalhães, autoras da minha adolescência.
Não obstante, penso que o livro precisa de uma grande reformulação ao nível de alguns diálogos, porque houve coisas que, na minha opinião, simplesmente não resultaram. Achei que em alguns momentos o enredo foi lento demais, como no começo da amizade, e o fim do livro foi muito apressado e era precisamente aí que se devia ter dado mais espaço para as coisas se desenvolverem.
Gostava que toda a questão do relacionamento abusivo do Miguel com a Isabel tivesse sido mais explorado, pois senti que foi algo que foi mencionado e não acrescentou grande coisa à história. Ok, deixa claro que este tipo de relações não é normal e acaba por ser um alerta vermelho para quem lê este livro e está a passar por isso. Apesar do Miguel ser bastante consciente do que se passa e assertivo, um relacionamento abusivo raramente acaba facilmente de um dia para o outro, ainda por cima neste em que uma das partes é extremamente controladora e ciumenta. Raramente, o "acabou tudo" põe um ponto final. E acho que teria sido interessante se houvessem mais momentos à volta dessa relação (talvez no segundo volume, quem sabe?).
Houve determinadas coisas que achei que precisavam mesmo de ser reformuladas, principalmente no fim... Achei TÃO ABRUPTO! Até fiquei a pensar "espera aí, espera aí, será que eu passei alguma página à frente sem me aperceber?".
Penso que a parte de perceberem e começarem a agir como apaixonados devia começar mais cedo, talvez na viagem que fazem e ir crescendo gradualmente, pois na realidade eles são amigos que se comportam como irmãos e o facto de as coisas se processarem num ápice é muito estranho.
Apesar dos pontos menos bons que mencionei acima, recomendo o livro da Ana Ribeiro e asseguro-vos que ao lê-lo vão sentir uma pontinha de inveja do romance, um bocadinho cliché (mas quem não ama clichés atire a primeira pedra), da Ana e do Miguel.

I already had heard a lot about this book before reading it, especialy from bookbloggers and bookinstagrammers posts, and I even had it in my wishlist.
So when the author contacted me to read and to make an honest review of her book I was super happy!
Ao teu Lado (By your side) is a book that talks about friendship, love and destiny.
It starts by telling the story of Ana and Miguel, two children who meet on a summer vacation in Alentejo. Initially things do not start very well, Miguel feels distressed for being poor and not having children of his age to play with. So when Ana sees him and is curious about his clothes and he runs away.
But Ana is stubborn and really wants to be friends with him. So the differences turn out to be forgotten and they actually become friends.
With this friendship came a great complicity and Miguel, who never had a "normal" childhood, ends up going to live with Ana to Lisbon and one of his biggest dreams will come true: he will be able to go to school.
They grow up, they have different dreams, but their friendship unites them more than ever.
But can this great friendship evolve to an epic love?
I did not particularly like the author's writing. Not that it's not good, but I just do not identify with this kind of writing anymore. As I got used to different types of writing over the last few years I ended up not finding this one fluid. However, it is not simply because I'm not used to it which means that Ao Teu Lado is a poorly written book. Even because by reading this book I remembered the times when I began to read the works of Alice Vieira or Ana Maria Magalhães, authors of my adolescence.
Nevertheless, I think the book needs a major overhaul in some dialogues, because there were things that, in my opinion, simply did not work out. I found that at times the storyline was too slow, like the beginning of the friendship, and the end of the book was very rushed, and it was precisely here that was needed more space for things to develop.
I would like that the whole issue of Miguel's abusive relationship with Isabel had been more explored, because I felt that it was something that was mentioned and did not add much to the plot. Okay, it was clear that this kind of relationship is not normal and turns out to be a red alert for anyone who reads this book and is going through it. Although Miguel is well aware of what is going on and assertive, an abusive relationship rarely ends easily overnight, especially when one of the parts is extremely controlling and jealous. Rarely, the "it's over" is the end of it. And I think it would have been interesting if there were more moments around this relationship (maybe in the second volume, who knows?).
There were certain things that I thought really needed to be reformulated, especially at the end... I found it SO ABRUPT! I even thought, "Wait a second, did I skip some page ahead without realizing it?"
I think that the part of beginning to act as lovers should start earlier, perhaps on the trip they do, and gradually grow from there, because in reality they are friends who behave as brothers and the fact that things get done at a glance is super weird.
Despite the less good points I mentioned above, I recommend Ana Ribeiro's book and I assure you that when you read it you will feel a bit of envy of the couple, a bit of a cliché (but those who do not love clichés throw the first stone) of Ana and of Miguel.
